Ideas
The tensegrity model is formed by 6 rods (compression componenets) with the same length, each is connected to a rubber band (tension components). For the design of my jewellery box, I decided to transform each rods into box with different sizes so it may end up with a jewellery box that looks like a ball shape. I am not sure if the structure will work with compression components of differnt lengthes, so trials are needed.
details for rods
The above photos shows the detail of each rods. Each rod has two thin gaps at each end so that the rubber bands can slot into the gaps to make connection with another rod.

Tensegrity
The essay "Tensegrity" by Buckminster Fuller was published in Portfolio, 1964, n.4.
- 'Tension and compression are inseparable and coordinate functions of structural systems, but one may be at high tide aspect, while the other is at low tide."
- "Tensegrity is a type of structure with an integrity based on a balance between tension and compression components."

- loading members only in pure compression or pure tension, meaning the structure will only fail if the cables yield or the rods buckle
- preload or tensional prestress, which allows cables to be rigid in tension
- mechanical stability, which allows the members to remain in tension/compression as stress on the structure increases
